What Restuarant Menus And Robert Scoble Tell Us About Reality

Posted by telecommatt on December 9, 2007

Check yourself – Do you live in reality or in net-reality? « Demo Girl

1. When you look at a menu at a restaurant you immediately start looking for keywords that refer to what you feel like eating.

After reading Demo Girl’s you’re-stuck-in-a-net-reality-if list, I have to admit that I think Robert Scoble is a celebrity, I’m constantly amazed at how often I have to explain what RSS is, and I’m firmly convinced that if Google hasn’t indexed it then its existence is questionable at best. And after some thought, I’ve realized that I truly seriously do scan the restaurant menu for keywords.

Oops, We’ve Been Robbed Again!

Posted by telecommatt on November 15, 2007

A Minnesota TCF Bank branch was robbed at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, and FBI agents and law enforcement officers conducted an investigation. By the afternoon, one law enforcement officer was left taking the final witness statements and walked out to his unmarked car to get more forms. When he returned a bank employee said, “We’ve just been robbed again.” Both suspects still have not been caught.

Would-be identity thief finds himself stumped without printer drivers

There are a few things in this world that thieves need to keep in mind in order to run a successful criminal operation.

I’ve had a rough day; I needed a laugh like this. Thought you might too!

Some People Just Beg to Be Labeled

Posted by telecommatt on September 23, 2007

I was at the Renaissance Festival today. We were exploring one of the many small shops that line the perimeter of the festival grounds when I spotted this. Later, I had a souring experience with a very rude employee at a particular food vendor. To top it off, the edible we bought, which we look forward to each year, tasted horrible. I was tempted to go back and purchase this as a gift for the offending gentleman.

Roll Your Own Bobbleheads With JibJab’s “Starring You”

Posted by telecommatt on August 10, 2007

A bit of Friday fun. This was just too good to pass up. For all it’s silliness, I can foresee using this to create social, political, and environmental statements that people actually pay attention to. Imagine bringing into a classroom a skit with about saving electricity starring their teacherĀ  as a bobblehead!

JibJab’s ‘Starring You!’ is the greatest office time-waster in history

from by Caroline McCarthyTrust me–I know procrastination. But this one really takes the cake.

JibJab, as you
probably know already, made a name for itself by creating corny (yet
socially relevant) musical skits that superimposed the heads of
politicians and celebrities onto cartoon bodies. Now that
user-generated content is nothing new, it almost seems overdue that
JibJab would introduce a “make your own” feature. But now, at long
last, here it is: “JibJab Starring You!”

The concept, at least according to the creators, is to JibJab
yourself by uploading a photo, easily crop it with the Flash-based
tools to make a bobblehead-like image, and then revel at the absurdity
of watching yourself dance the Charleston.

But don’t let that fool you. The real purpose of “Starring You!” is
to dig up photos of your boss and put them into any number of the dorky
dance videos. As a bonus, most of them require two dancers, so you can
use the likenesses of multiple co-workers–or choose from a small
library of celebrity heads that range from Donald Trump to Barack Obama.

Easter Egg Hunt: Hidden Treasures in Your Design Software

Easter Egg Hunt: Hidden Treasures in Your Design Software

Have you ever been working on a project and all of a sudden, something really unexpected happens? No, I am not talking about a big, fat Windows “Blue Screen Of Death” or random bugs, but rather about the little surprises that software programmers add into their output as little personal signatures in an otherwise streamlined corporate package.

I had to post this. It is, after all, Easter weekend. I love Easter eggs. Random rooms in games, weird things happening in the background of a movie, and, of course, strange things that happen when you’re using a seemingly serious and business-minded application, These are pretty funny, check them out!

The Rake on “Climate Change”

Posted by telecommatt on March 4, 2007

This month’s Rake Magazine has a little sidebar in the Rakish Angle section that I can’t resist sharing. I can’t find the actual spot on their site, but it’s on page 22 if you want to follow along. Disclaimer: You might have to be Minnesotan to understand some of these.

Spinning “Climate Change”

Some reasons to feel better about imminent planet-wide meltdown:

Aquatennial and Winter Carnival to merge.
    More Speedo time!
Northwest passage soon to be completed.
Global warming: Beats the hell out of an ice age.
It’s treatable! Sort of like a meteorological bi-polar disorder.
Won’t that hole in the ozone be a handy escape hatch when the planet blows up?
